Estrie business receives $250,000 in funding from CED.

Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED) Marianne Dandurand, Member of Parliament for Compton–Stanstead, took the opportunity while visiting Omnimed to highlight a repayable contribution of $250,000 provided to the business under the Regional Artificial Intelligence Initiative (RAII).

To build the economy of tomorrow and remain competitive, businesses must seize the opportunities AI offers. That is precisely the goal of the RAII: to support the development and commercialization of AI technologies and accelerate their adoption and integration into businesses. That is also why the Honourable Evan Solomon, Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation, announced on October 13, 2026, a $500-million increase over five years for this initiative, bringing its total funding to $700 million nationwide.

A pioneer in the field of electronic medical records in Quebec, Omnimed has for over 40 years specialized in the design of information systems for the health sector. To pursue its growth in a rapidly evolving field, Omnimed wants to focus on integrating AI functionalities into its platform, with a view to reducing the workload of healthcare professionals and administrative staff. The business is thus seeking to strengthen its capacity to innovate in AI by developing high-performance computing infrastructure that will make it possible to host in Canada the AI algorithm models it uses, while also ensuring data security. The aim of its project is therefore to improve its performance and productivity by enhancing its storage capacity and increasing the speed of its operations. CED’s contribution will focus on the acquisition and installation of computing equipment.

Finally, in addition to consolidating 82 jobs, this project will help strengthen the region’s economic vitality. In a climate of rapid transformation and increased competition, AI is becoming a key tool to improve efficiency and support growth among businesses. These investments align with the Government of Canada’s vision, AI for All, which aims to make this technology accessible to businesses and communities across the country so they can benefit from tangible outcomes and seize the resulting business opportunities. Through this funding, the government is promoting responsible adoption of AI and contributing to vibrant regional economies.
