Serving on Key Committees for the Region<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n
Since arriving in Parliament, Ms. Dandurand has been appointed to two important committees: the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food, and the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security, both addressing issues of particular importance to the Eastern Townships.<\/p>\r\n
In addition, she was elected by her peers as Chair of the Liberal Rural Caucus, where she advocates for rural and regional communities at the centre of federal decision-making. The caucus has already begun work on key issues such as labour shortages and improving cellular connectivity, with discussions and initiatives continuing through the summer.<\/p>\r\n
During her first week on Parliament Hill, Ms. Dandurand met with M\u00e9lanie Joly, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, and Buckley B\u00e9langer, Minister of State for Rural Development, to advance these files.<\/p>\r\n
Supporting Major Legislative Initiatives<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n
Although brief, the Spring 2025 parliamentary session brought forward significant measures from the government of Prime Minister Mark Carney, with Ms. Dandurand actively supporting these efforts.<\/p>\r\n
Among them was the tabling of legislation to make life more affordable for Canadians, fulfilling a key campaign commitment. The bill includes an income tax cut benefiting 22 million Canadians, saving couples up to $840 per year, and a GST rebate for first-time homebuyers.<\/p>\r\n
To address unfair and illegal trade practices from the United States, the government introduced the One Canadian Economy Act. This legislation aims to accelerate projects of national interest and eliminate interprovincial trade barriers, which could generate up to $200 billion in GDP growth, increase productivity by as much as 7%, and reduce consumer prices by up to 15%.<\/p>\r\n
The government also announced the largest border security investment in Canadian history, a $1.3 billion initiative to strengthen border infrastructure, combat transnational organized crime and fentanyl trafficking, and crack down on illicit financial activities.<\/p>\r\n
A Summer of Engagement Across the Riding<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n
Remaining true to her pledge of accessibility and attentiveness, Ms. Dandurand will dedicate the summer to visiting communities throughout Compton\u2013Stanstead.
