Sherbrooke, Saturday, May 2, 2026 \u2013<\/strong> Marianne Dandurand, Member of Parliament for Compton\u2013Stanstead, officially opened her constituency office today. The new space is designed to make federal services more accessible and to help advance citizens\u2019 files more effectively. The event also served as an opportunity to review her first year in Ottawa, a year marked by strong engagement across the riding.<\/p>\n

Key achievements from MP Dandurand\u2019s first year <\/strong><\/p>\n

Throughout the past year, Dandurand met extensively with municipalities, businesses, community organizations, and residents.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe conversations I\u2019ve had with you over the past year have truly helped move forward several important issues for our region, particularly in terms of cellular connectivity and economic development,\u201d she said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

She introduced a bill in the House of Commons aimed at improving cellular coverage in rural areas. She also worked closely with local businesses to address labour shortages, defend manufacturing sectors affected by U.S. tari\u01afs, and strengthen the position of local suppliers in federal procurement processes.<\/p>\n

Tourism – an economic cornerstone of the Eastern Townships – was the focus of discussions with regional associations to identify challenges and growth opportunities. A new employment assistance service for the English-speaking community, funded by the federal government and delivered by the Townshippers\u2019 Association, was launched to reduce barriers to workforce integration and support the regional economy.<\/p>\n

Her constituency office has also supported more than 300 residents in navigating federal programs and services, underscoring the importance of accessible and effective local support.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead <\/strong><\/p>\n

As she enters the next phase of her mandate, Dandurand plans to maintain a strong on-the-ground presence and continue advocating for regional priorities. Her key areas of focus include maintaining access to temporary foreign workers, supporting the agricultural sector, and further improving cellular connectivity.<\/p>\n

As chair of the Liberal Rural Caucus, she welcomed the growing national consensus on the need to strengthen cellular coverage: \u201cAccess to cellular networks is a matter of public safety, economic development, and fairness between regions. We need action on all fronts. The bill is a concrete tool, and we are continuing to work on innovative solutions so that our communities are no longer left without service.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Her team provides support with federal programs, information on government services, and personalized assistance based on residents\u2019 needs. Dandurand emphasizes that the o\u01afice is intended to be a welcoming, service-oriented space, and that her door remains open to everyone.<\/p>\n
